Ex Third Eye Blind Guitarist Is Suing the Band Over Debut Album Reissue

Third Eye Blind's ex-guitarist Kevin Cadogan wants something else — the money his former band mates owe him for the reissue of their self-titled debut album.

Third Eye Blind celebrated its 20th birthday in 2017, and Cadogan hasn't been compensated despite being a founding member and co-writing “Kiss Goodnight,” “Scattered,” “Heroin” and the rockers' seminal hit, “Semi-Charmed Life,” meaning he's owed at least 25% of the profits. As a result, he's suing the band and singer Stephan Jenkins.

As TMZ reports, the 48-year-old filed a lawsuit claiming he's been cut out of royalties and isn't listed as a writer on the songs he helped create. He's suing for a court order to establish authorship on all the disputed tracks and an accounting of how much money those songs have generated. Ultimately, he wants to get paid what he's owed.

Cadogan was fired from the band in 2000, seven years after he co-found it with Jenkins. Though he was told each member of the band was an equal partner, Jenkins put the band trademark under his name and attempted to get sole copyright for the songs. Cadogan was able to secure copyright for his songs, but this is not the first time he and his former band mate have gotten into a legal battle.
