Guitar String Maker Ernie Ball Says Producing Masks Is "A Top Priority"

One of the world's leading manufacturers of guitar strings, bass strings and accessories is reconfiguring its operation to produce face masks to combat the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Located in Coachella, California, Ernie Ball has dedicated part of its accessories facility to produce approximately 400 face masks per day to meet the needs of the local community in Riverside County.

"We are dedicating our accessories and strap manufacturing departments to producing masks and are making it a top priority," said Brian Ball, CEO of Ernie Ball. "The Coachella Valley is our home and we want to help both local charities and the residents as well."

The initial batches of masks will be donated to staff at local homeless services organization, Martha's Village.

Brian Ball says the company's plans is to serve the needs to Martha's Village and other local organizations, then make the masks available to local residents for free.

As hospitals worldwide manage a shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE), state governments are urging manufacturers to start producing the life-saving gear.

In New York State, Governor Andrew Cuomo has repeatedly assured manufacturers that the state will cover the costs of converting operations to produce PPE and then pay a premium for the products.
