Rivers Cuomo mysteriously uploaded 16 snippets of cover versions of other musicians' hit songs to YouTube, titling the playlist "randum cuverz."
The Weezer frontman appears to have recorded the covers between 2018 and 2021, as some of the recordings have dates on them. However, per Rolling Stone, the rocker has not provided any explanation or clarification on the covers or reason for uploading them.
The songs include iconic singles such as Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody," Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean," OutKast's "Hey Ya," Dolly Parton's "Jolene" and Radiohead's "Creep."
The cryptic covers come after the Library of Congress added Weezer's seminal 1994 debut album, known as the Blue Album, to the National Recording Registry on May 14.
The rock band's self-titled debut featured iconic hits such as "Buddy Holly" and "Say It Ain't So," with the LP remaining the band's best-selling album to date.
Weezer is gearing up to hit the road this fall for a 32-city North American arena tour. The outing follows the band's sold-out "Voyage to the Blue Planet" tour in 2024, which celebrated 30 years of the Blue Album.
