That said, here's some sobering news on approx how much you need to earn per year to afford a house in California's biggest cities (and the rest of the country). Not surprising - we dominate the Top 4 slots (yikes)

From KUSI in San Diego:

Two big Silicon Valley cities, San Jose and San Francisco, rank at the top of the list. What may be a surprise is San Diego ranks third, before Los Angeles. A household would have to bring in 131,000 dollars in annual income in order to afford a median sized home. The most affordable of the top 50 U.S. cities is Pittsburgh.
