It's the kind of thing you have to see to believe: a 9,090-pound bowl of guacamole. That's the weight of nearly three midsize cars, about 130 golden retrievers, or roughly 6,060 Chipotle burritos. In short, it's a sh*t-ton of guac. Imagine the dips, burgers, bowls of chips, and sandwiches it could be slathered on!!
The beast of a dip qualified as the world's largest bowl of guacamole, as certified by the World Avocado Organization. (In 2018, Junta Local de Sanidad Vegetal de Tancítaro in Tancítaro, Mexico prepared a bowl that weighed in at 8,351.11 pounds, the previous world record.) The whole thing came together at the New York Jets' home opener September 8 and was made to celebrate the new partnership between the Jets and Avocados From Peru, which will provide the avocados used in the stadium concessions.
Chefs started preparing the guac Saturday and started back up again Sunday morning, a spokesperson for the brand partnership told Delish. The ingredient list is truly wild:
- 8,800 sliced avocados
- 1,000 pounds of whole avocados
- 700 diced red plum tomatoes
- 120 diced red onions
- 80 diced jalapeños
- 25 chopped garlic bulbs
- 20 gallons of lime juice
- 32 pounds of cilantro
- 125 pounds of kosher salt
Once it was allll mixed together, you have this enormous vat of guac on display, which I'm sure spectators had a hard time not immediately dipping a chip into. If that much guac is not awaiting me at the pearly white gates of heaven, I will be very disappointed.
