Nearly 200 Queen Murder Hornets Found In Washington Nest

A couple weeks ago, a murder hornet nest was located in Washington and they found only 2 queens at the time. Now, they speculate there's actually 200!

More than 500 murder hornets have been counted and it seems that number keeps growing.

Announced Tuesday by Washington agriculture officials, the nest was found in an alder tree in the northwest region of the state near the Canadian border. And it was no small find -- the Department of Agriculture's Karla Sipp says the nest was more than eight feet high.

Proving the resilience of these hornets, workers doused the dangerous insects with "multiple applications of carbon dioxide" and placed them in cold storage -- but most of them remained alive.

State officials say they believe there are at least two other nests in the area.
