Kevin Smith Says Drake Treated 'Degrassi' Cast 'Like Gods' At Video Shoot

Drake gave us the ultimate throwback last week when he dropped his video for "I'm Upset" which reunited the megastar with his Degrassi classmates. The rapper brought together his former co-stars for the over-the-top high school reunion themed clip set in the same hallways many of us grew up watching on TV.

You probably noticed that actors Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes, also known as Jay and Silent Bob, make a hilarious cameo in the video. Here's a little refresher on their connection to Degrassi. The two actually had a story arc on season 4 of the show. They invaded the school to shoot a film called Jay And Silent Bob Go Canadian. Since then big things have happened for one student in particular who at the time was known as Jimmy Brooks.

Smith visited The Woody Show two days after the music video's release and gave the scoop on how it all came about. "It was just this weekend... Friday, Saturday and Sunday we shot the video," Smith revealed. Drake made contact with the cast and a week or so later everyone was on set partying.

How was it working with the rapper? "Being on set was wonderful," Smith said. He gushed about how well Drake treated his former cast mates, many of whom went on to lead normal lives outside of the spotlight after their stints on the teen drama. "He treated them like Gods. He was like 'Here get out of these expensive cars... everyone gets their own shot.' They were lionized and celebrated. It was wonderful to see him amongst them because those are his classmates."

Smith joked that "It looks like the most expensive episode of Degrassi every made."
