"The Get Down" Actor Cast as "Aquaman" Villain

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, star of Netflix’s “The Get Down” has been cast as villain Black Manta in the upcoming “Aquaman” film.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the decision was made over the weekend after director James Wan spent the last few weeks meeting with potential actors. The official offer was made to Abdul-Mateen on Monday.

If accepted, Abdul-Mateen will play the DC villain in the Warner Bros. production. It’s the next DC movie being produced with an anticipated start date of shooting in April.

Actors already cast for the movie include Jason Momoa as Aquaman and Amber Heard as love-interest Mera. Abdul-Mateen was being considered for Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Han Solo "Star Wars" spin-off, but the role instead went to Donald Glover.
