Man Registers Beer as Emotional Support Animal

A Brooklyn man who claims to suffer anxiety on long bus trips has filed paperwork to register a new type of emotional support animal: beer.

Floyd Hayes, who filed the paperwork with USA Service Dog Registration, says beer is far better at relieving his social anxiety disorder than a dog could ever be. "I travel from upstate to Brooklyn a lot, and on the bus they say it's a federal crime to smoke or have an alcoholic beverage unless by prior written consent," Hayes says. "I always wondered where you get that consent."

However, a rep for Service Dog Registration says while filing paperwork with the organization helps pet owners keep their beloved animals in rental units, medical approval is needed to bring therapeutic animals -- or, in this case, beer -- into places of business. "This will not get you into Walmart, it will not get you into Denny’s," he says.
