Puppies Found in Yard Turn Out to be Bear Cubs

Authorities say a North Carolina man is lucky he wasn't attacked by a mother bear after he brought into his home a box containing what he thought were puppies -- but were actually bear cubs.

The unidentified Camden County man found the box on his front lawn when he arrived home from work on Friday, according to Sheriff Kevin Jones.

Thinking someone had abandoned a new litter of pups, he brought the box inside and notified authorities, who came out to his home -- and quickly realized they weren't dealing with puppies at all.

The cubs are now in the care of the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission, which plans to release them into the wild after they've grown enough to fend for themselves. How they ended up in a box on a resident's lawn is anybody's guess.
