The 1975's Matty Healy Says They'll Only Play Gender-Balanced Festivals

St Jerome's Laneway Festival 2020 - Melbourne

Matty Healy of The 1975 wants to see more women and non-binary artists on festival lineups.

And if a festival fails to balance the dynamic, the band won't be playing. This decision comes after The 1975 performed at this year's Reading and Leeds festival which was criticized for their exclusivity.

Journalist Laura Snapes tweeted at Healy recently, pleading for him to agree to play "festivals that commit to X% (ideally 50%!) acts that include women and non-binary performers."

Healy responded, "Take this as me signing this contract..."
