Lorde has been teasing new music for quite some time now, but has yet to release—or even announce—anything. However, that appears to be changing after the singer shared a cryptic post on Instagram after wiping it clean.
The carousel of photos appear to be random, showing Lorde spitting off a balcony, holding a pill that says "spit," an ashtray full of jewelry, a black and white pool picture, and a blurry photo of her back, but after reading the caption and her Instagram tagline they were surely chosen for a reason.
The caption is even more mysterious than the photos, featuring a whole bunch of symbols and what look like hieroglyphics. "Use the existing tools wherever possible ©𝑳ĿŁု⑷♶," it reads. "If the tools do not exist you are spiritually obliged to create them © 𝑳ĿŁု⑷♶⚤✬✹❁✰㉗✬✹❁🀥⚭ 𓆝𓃹𓁙"
Lorde's profile tagline reads: "THE THEMES ARE ALWAYS THE SAME— A RETURN TO INNOCENCE— THE MYSTERIES OF THE BLOOD— AN ITCH FOR THE TRANSCENDENTAL"
The post got fans in detective mode, and they're convinced its teasing Lorde's long-awaited fourth album, noting how the number four appears several times in the caption. Others believe the album or lead single is titled "Spit," pointing to some of the photos in the carousel, and predict new music is coming on June 27 because that number is also present in the caption.
If Lorde is in fact teasing a new album it'll be the followup to 2021's Solar Power. Check out her Instagram post below.
