Scented dryer sheets can be used as a preventative measure to help keep the stingers away. The dryer sheet in your mailbox is used for preventative measures, so if you see a nest forming, it's best to get rid of it as soon as possible.
Wasps typically dislike aromatic things like eucalyptus, citronella and cloves. Dryer sheets are meant to freshen up our clothes so it makes sense that our scents would be strong.
